Hiro has been dedicated for more than 40 years throughout his career to drug development in the ophthalmology field. Prior to joining Ora, Hiro served as Head of R&D and Board member at Rohto Pharma, Head of R&D at Alcon Japan, and Board Member & Vice President at Aqumen Bioventure. Notably, Hiro established Alcon Japan R&D, leading to development and approval in Japan for products such as Betoptic, Iopidine, OptiFree, AcrySoft and others. During his time at Rohto, his team developed the leading brand, “V Rohto”, that is a top global brand in OTC eyedrops.
Hiro graduated from the Department of Pharmacy, Kanazawa University in Japan and was awarded a PhD degree by the Research on Biochemistry of Retina from Department of Ophthalmology & Visual Science, Kanazawa University in Japan. Hiro also conducted research in the field of cataract at the Eye Research Institute of Oakland University, Michigan, USA under Professor Venkat Reddy.
Hiro is very knowledgeable about the ophthalmology industry and has extensive relationships throughout the field and academia in Japan.
